KEY STAGE 1
Year 1 (5-6 years)
During Year 1, children make a smooth transition from Foundation Stage to the Key Stage 1 Curriculum. They build on their knowledge of “Synthetic phonics” in whole class sessions and have discreet Maths lessons too. The English curriculum is taught through ‘The Power of Reading’ which uses carefully chosen books to guide the learning. This method fits well with our creative curriculum as it gives lots of opportunities for links with other subjects.
We use the “Creative Learning Journey” as a basis for our planning so that the subjects in the National Curriculum can be taught in an integrated, imaginative and practical way. This ensures that children can learn essential skills while being motivated by a creative curriculum.
