Computing

Our Computing Learning

“If you give
people tools, and they use their natural abilities and their curiosity, they
will develop things in ways that will surprise you very much beyond what you
might have expected.”
― Bill
Gates
At Lionwood we want pupils to understand that
technology is everywhere and plays a pivotal part in our lives. Therefore, we
want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively,
responsibly and safely. Computing is a part of our broad curriculum encompassing
computer science, information technology and digital literacy.
Computing links closely with mathematics, science,
and design and technology, it is taught both discreetly and in a cross
curricular manner. We encourage staff to embed computing across the whole of
our curriculum, integrating it where possible to make learning creative and
accessible. We recognise that technology can allow pupils to share their
learning in creative ways. We also understand the accessibility opportunities
technology can provide for our pupils. We want our pupils to be fluent with a
range of tools to best express their understanding of computing and e-safety
and hope by the end of Key Stage 1, children have the independence and
confidence to choose the best tool to fulfil the task and challenge set by
teachers.
Through teaching computing, we equip our children
to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities
are increasingly transformed by technology.
